After enduring a few days of -40°C temperatures, the weather finally warmed up enough for my wife, 8-year-old son, and I to embark on the Johnston Canyon ice walk. We were led by the knowledgeable guides Kelsey and Roz (who wanted her mum to know she was indeed working on Christmas Eve) and they both did a fantastic job of pointing out and explaining various features while navigating through the snow. Our party had an absolutely splendid time during our 6-day exploration of Banff National Park with Roz. We were treated to breathtaking views of magnificent lakes and waterfalls, and embarked on invigorating hikes that we may have overlooked if left to our own devices. The sheer beauty and grandeur of the sights we witnessed in the main areas of Banff National Park left us in awe.
Roz was simply outstanding - exceedingly amiable, laid-back, accommodating to our preferences, considerate of the varying fitness levels within our group during longer excursions, seamlessly integrated into our group dynamic, and a wealth of knowledge (clearly having done her research on the region and its history).

During our jaunt to Canada, we pre-booked the "Discover Banff and Its Wildlife" tour for three hours in advance via an agency. We were quite pleased with the quaint group size, the prompt rendezvous with our driver at the designated meeting spot, and the sights included on the tour. Being new to Banff National Park, the tour provided us with a solid initial glimpse into the park. Our driver also shared a bounty of insights about the park and its fauna. Nonetheless, we only caught sight of a handful of mountain goats during our outing, leading us to feel that the tour's name might be a tad misleading. We understand that wild critters roam freely and can't be summoned at will, but perhaps a different moniker for the tour could help manage expectations. All in all, for the price paid, we found ourselves content with the service rendered.

We had a jolly good time on the Consolation Lakes hike, we did! Our guide, Max, was absolutely smashing! He was not only a hoot to be around but also a font of knowledge. On our journey, he even halted when he spotted a bear, snapped superb photos of all of us at the prime spots, and made safety his top priority. I recently ventured on a solo escapade to Banff with a desire to explore the great outdoors through hiking, but my concerns about bumping into some wild bears made me a tad hesitant. That's when I decided to sign up for a two-day Hiking Tour to put my worries at ease. Initially, the plan was to conquer the Stanley Glacier ❄️ and Larch Valley 🍂 trails, but due to the treacherous trail conditions and snowfall, our path led us to the Yamnuska Shoulder Trail at Mount Yamnuska 🏔️ and the Castle Cliff Trail at Castle Mountain 🏞️.
I must admit, I'm not one to frequently jot down my thoughts online, but after this remarkable experience, I felt compelled to share my immediate impressions.
Day 1: Yamnuska Trail
The weather gods were on our side ☀️, and we were graced with the delightful companionship of two splendid guides, Tina and Andy. They were exceptionally warm-hearted and ensured that we took ample water breaks and rested whenever needed 💧. They also enlightened us about the local vegetation 🌿 and wildlife 🦌 as we strolled along, keeping us engaged in delightful banter. The ascent was 425 meters 🏃♀️, which proved to be a slight challenge for a novice hiker like me, but the majestic valley vistas from the summit made every step worthwhile 🌄. We indulged in a sumptuous lunch amidst the serene valley at the peak 🍱, an experience that truly warmed the heart. I tip my hat ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to Tina and Andy for making the tour such a delightful and cozy affair.
Day 2: Castle Mountain
Our guide for the day was the fabulous Ross (fingers crossed I got the name right!). She was an absolute gem! With rain predicted on the forecast 🌧️, she kindly provided us with rain gear just in case. Ross briefed us on bear encounters 🐻 and equipped us with air horns 📯 and bear spray 🧴. Throughout the hike, she shared fascinating insights about the local flora 🌳 and geological wonders 🏔️. The panoramic views from the top were simply breathtaking 😍, and Ross went the extra mile to help me capture stunning photographs 📸, a real treat for a lone explorer like me. She even brought along a top-notch telescope 🔭 and extra seat pads for a comfortable lunch break at the summit 🍔. Finishing ahead of schedule, she whisked us away on a short drive to Marble Canyon 🚗, a mere 10 minutes away, where we marveled at the ice-blue waters cascading from Stanley Glacier 💧. En route through Kootenay National Park, we were treated to the awe-inspiring sight of colossal snow-capped mountains 🏔️. Full marks ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to Ross for being a stellar guide and ensuring our well-being.
Ross was an exemplary guide who took exceptional care of us, and her company was truly delightful. These two hiking excursions have left an indelible mark on my heart, filling it with joyous memories I'll treasure forever 🌟.
