Apollo Health Centre: A Comprehensive Review

Apollo Health Centre, located in Blackfalds, Alberta, has been a focal point for healthcare in the community. While many patients praise the medical professionals, there are significant concerns regarding accessibility and front desk interactions.

Accessibility Features

The health centre prides itself on its wheelchair-accessible entrance and amenities. Patients can find a wheelchair-accessible car park along with a wheelchair-accessible toilet, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can navigate the facility comfortably. Nonetheless, feedback indicates that improvements could be made to enhance the overall experience for these patients.

Appointment Recommendations

For optimal care, appointments are recommended at Apollo Health Centre. Many patients have expressed frustration over walk-in experiences, citing that they often leave in disappointment. The receptionists' demeanor has been described as rude and unhelpful, leading to a poor first impression. One patient noted that when seeking immediate help for pain, the receptionist dismissed their needs with a lack of professionalism.

Waiting Room Amenities

The waiting room at Apollo Health Centre has garnered mixed reviews. While the staff is frequently described as professional and kind, some concerns arise about the physical setting. Notably, patients are required to remove their shoes, which can lead to cold and wet feet due to puddles in the waiting area. Those with foot issues or mobility concerns might consider bringing indoor shoes or slippers to enhance their comfort.

Patient Care Experiences

Many patients have shared positive experiences regarding the doctors and nursing staff. Dr. Gbenoba-Okumiahor is frequently mentioned for her compassionate bedside manner, making patients feel heard and understood. However, there is a stark contrast when it comes to frontline staff, which has led to several complaints. Instances of rudeness from receptionists have resulted in patients feeling undervalued, with one review stating that the front desk staff "ruins the reputation of the clinic."

Overall Impression

In summary, Apollo Health Centre offers valuable medical care, with skilled doctors who genuinely prioritize patient well-being. However, significant attention is needed on the reception side of operations to create a welcoming atmosphere. Enhancing the overall accessibility and ensuring that frontline staff reflect the professionalism expected in a healthcare setting could greatly improve the patient experience.

I was trying to call and schedule an appointment this morning at around 8:20am, and the receptionist who answered the phone seemed rather uneducated. According to their website, their hours of operation are from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. However, when I called, she answered in a very impolite manner, instructing me to call back during their supposed hours and mentioning that she hadn't even started up her computer yet. She then abruptly ended the call before I could even explain myself or apologize.

I was truly taken aback by the lack of professionalism displayed. It seems that she is not suitable for a customer-facing role, as she lacks the patience and compassion required to interact with others effectively.

My physician was brilliant and provided me with all the necessary information. The front desk staff were also incredibly friendly and accommodating.
Christina Brown (2025-06-01, 8:25 a.m.):
I was turned away because I hadn't been vaccinated and they advised me to get a Covid test instead.
Kenneth Diaz (2025-05-29, 5:24 p.m.):
The medical center has a pleasant and professional team of doctors and staff. However, it's important to note that they require patients to remove their shoes in the waiting room. The waiting area is mostly covered in laminate flooring with only two small rugs, leading to water puddles from wet shoes. This may result in cold and damp feet, which could be uncomfortable for individuals with foot issues, mobility impairments, Raynaud's syndrome, or circulation problems. It would be beneficial if patients with such concerns bring slippers or indoor shoes. It seems surprising that a medical facility wouldn't address this issue by ensuring a dry and warm environment for patients.
