Northern Rural Net: An Overview

Northern Rural Net is an internet service provider located in Bancroft, Ontario, primarily serving underserved rural areas. While the promise of reliable internet service is appealing, many customers have expressed their concerns regarding service quality and customer support.

Accessibility Challenges

One aspect that stands out for Northern Rural Net is their commitment to accessibility. They offer a wheelchair-accessible car park, making it easier for all customers to visit their offices. However, accessibility goes beyond physical access; it also includes the reliability of their services, which has come into question based on various customer experiences.

Customer Experiences: A Mixed Bag

Many customers have reported their frustration with the inconsistent internet service. One user stated, “Promises of better internet than 'the big guys' are nothing but lies.” This sentiment resonates with those who have experienced low download speeds and frequent outages over extended periods. Unfortunately, many customers feel trapped, as they believe Northern Rural Net is their only option in remote areas. Some customers have had positive experiences, highlighting the friendly and helpful staff, particularly when dealing with technical issues. For example, one customer mentioned how their installation was handled professionally, stating, “The installation was fantastic and friendly.”

The Importance of Reliable Service

Rural residents rely heavily on internet connectivity for work, education, and daily activities. With the ongoing challenges presented by Northern Rural Net, many customers are exploring alternative options. Complaints about unreliable service have led some individuals to seek providers that can meet their needs more consistently. Another review echoed this concern: “The internet is out more than it’s on,” emphasizing the frustration many users face when they cannot rely on their service provider.

Final Thoughts

While Northern Rural Net aims to provide accessible internet services in rural Ontario, the inconsistencies in service quality and customer support remain significant hurdles. As customers continue to voice their concerns, potential users should carefully consider their options and assess whether Northern Rural Net can meet their specific needs. In conclusion, while commendable efforts have been made for accessibility, the company must address service reliability to retain its customer base and improve its overall reputation in the community.

I must say, we've been a customer for two years at this point. The initial connection work was handled by Bell and I must say, the service was absolutely fantastic. I did have some concerns with the old modem initially, but now that we have an updated Bell modem, things have been running smoothly. The employees at the local office truly go above and beyond to assist us, which isn't something we typically encounter here in Mississauga when it comes to utilities. Overall, we are exceptionally pleased with the service.

Outstanding service and I must say, quite impressed with the pricing!
Henry Mitchell (2025-05-25, 6:12 p.m.):
Brand new customer here. Had a little hiccup with the first router being defective, but got a replacement quickly and now everything is running smoothly and consistently fast. Much appreciated!
Aaron Ortiz (2025-05-24, 6:34 a.m.):
Internet always seems to fail whenever there's a snow storm or strong winds, and it can be offline for days. The customer service is truly dreadful.
Joyce Morales (2025-05-24, 1:24 a.m.):
I was connected by Chris yesterday and I must say their prices are absolutely brilliant! He was so knowledgeable and set up my superbox perfectly. He really went the extra mile! Their service was top-notch and I was truly impressed. And can you believe it, he even took off his boots!
Betty Price (2025-05-23, 4:35 p.m.):
I must say, this is absolutely brilliant!
Rachel Bennett (2025-05-23, 5:05 a.m.):
I must say, the service provided by this internet service provider is absolutely dreadful. As a business owner, it is crucial for me to have reliable internet connection, yet it seems to be down more often than not. This morning at 9:10am, I phoned them to report the issue, but was put on hold for a staggering 42 minutes while being told I was first in line, only to be abruptly disconnected.

Undeterred, I called back immediately, and this time found myself in 8th position in the queue. After waiting an additional 35 minutes, I had to leave a voicemail as no one answered, and have yet to receive a call back – it's now 11:30am. My sincere advice would be to steer clear of this provider due to their subpar service.

Fresh installation, consistent speeds, hassle-free customer service. It's only been a fortnight, but this decision has certainly proven beneficial. The absence of data caps truly revolutionizes rural living and facilitates those who study and work remotely.
Austin Kim (2025-05-22, 7:52 a.m.):
When I initially signed up with the provider a year ago due to a promotion, I was satisfied with the service and found them to be accessible. However, when I received incorrect billing information and contacted them to rectify the issue, they refused to reimburse me the money owed, stating that the email they sent me was mistaken! They declined to honor it, even for a single month. Despite making several phone calls and requesting escalation, no one ever followed up with me. During my last call, I was placed on hold and received a message saying that "no one was available," despite being first in the queue. I'm unsure of the challenges they are facing, but at this rate, they will undoubtedly lose many customers, particularly with alternative options now catering to vacationers. Unless they start treating their clients as valued customers, I don't anticipate them staying in business for much longer.
Nathan Flores (2025-05-20, 9:25 a.m.):
They're absolutely dreadful! My mum has been forking out for about 6 months now and we've had no internet a whopping 90% of the time. It's like pulling teeth trying to get any sort of help from them. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, let alone recommend them to anyone else! Initially, they seemed decent and easy on the pocket, but then out of the blue they hiked up their prices, and the cherry on top? Absolutely zilch in terms of customer service! We've got a plethora of routers, but they just keep directing us to fiddle with them, and surprise surprise, they still refuse to work properly once plugged in.
Sophia Sanchez (2025-05-19, 3:22 a.m.):
I must say, mate, I'm eager to share my experience as a customer... but alas, it's been a good two months now since I requested a tech visit for a site survey, and I'm still here twiddling my thumbs thanks to Bell being absolute rubbish. Not the most promising start for me if this is how they handle potential customers, eh?
Louis Graham (2025-05-16, 10:40 p.m.):
AVOID THIS PROVIDER AT ALL COSTS!!! To start with, the only way to settle your bill is by check or e-transfer, and fortunate for me, I hold onto the receipts for my e-transfers from the bank as I have been wrongly accused multiple times of not paying and had my service disconnected without warning. Additionally, my business internet has been down for a whole 6 days now, with them assuring me every day that it would be fixed by the morning. As my business heavily relies on a stable internet connection, this situation is incredibly damaging! Clearly, they need to dismiss the incompetent individuals they have on their team!
Bobby Carter (2025-05-14, 1:43 p.m.):
First in line for over 2 hours, these are the laziest individuals I've ever encountered. They seem to find joy in playing a game of "let's see who can avoid answering the phone the longest."
Aaron Davis (2025-05-13, 12:41 p.m.):
We've recently had a tower erected on our land and are thrilled for folks in our area to benefit from it! In our region, data is finite and internet costs a pretty penny. It's great that this provider offers boundless data at a reasonable rate! Every interaction with their staff, whether via email, over the phone, or face-to-face, has been stellar! Thus far, we're quite pleased with their service and will provide another review once everything is up and running smoothly! 😄
Allison Ortiz (2025-05-11, 3:06 p.m.):
We're having a great experience with Northern. The Android box can freeze occasionally, but it did the same with Bell. Phones, Fire Sticks, and laptops are all running smoothly.
So far, everything's going well.
Thanks
Ruth Jackson (2025-05-09, 5:58 p.m.):
If you're after an internet service that's more down than up, then look no further!
Gabriel Nguyen (2025-05-05, 8:13 a.m.):
We've been with NRN for a little over a year now and absolutely adore the service! The customer service is top-notch, simply splendid.
Andrew Myers (2025-05-04, 8:28 p.m.):
If I could grant no stars, I definitely would. I've been attempting to contact them for several days now, making over 15 phone calls a day, and still no luck reaching a live person or receiving a callback. This is by far the worst service I've ever experienced!
Julie Davis (2025-05-03, 10:19 a.m.):
I swear, I'd give 'em nought stars if I could. They brought on me spouse as a contractor and then didn't cough up the dosh. Every week, he'd send in his fuel receipts and yet not a penny has touched his palm for either his labor or the petrol. We're actually in the red because of this blunder. He toiled for 'em for over a month. I pray they lose every bit of their business.
Susan Brown (2025-05-02, 11:00 p.m.):
Claims of providing superior internet services compared to larger providers are simply false. The service I received did not meet the promised standards, with consistently low download speeds and recurring outages over a period of three years. It was only after threatening to switch providers that they finally made an effort to improve by offering a better dish, admitting that achieving the 15 Mbps speed I paid for was not possible due to interference from trees. They suggested mounting the dish on a TV tower as a solution, but essentially implied that I should settle for whatever I could get. It would have been more honest to set realistic expectations upfront instead of simply installing another dish. I have since returned to a larger provider, where I now enjoy faster download speeds at a lower cost. Northern Rural, your service is subpar.
