It has been quite the journey, and in truth, it's not completely finished yet as we are getting ready for our soft landing in August 2019. Initially, I started the process alone, poring over the documentation from CIC and gathering all the necessary papers. Before long, I realized that I was faced with too many questions regarding the application details and there was no way I could succeed without the assistance of seasoned lawyers.
I opted for Immigration.ca - Colin Singer Canadian Citizenship & Immigration and it turned out to be a wise decision. At times, I felt that the lawyers were very meticulous and precise with the information I provided, often asking for more specifics. I thought it was a waste of time and wanted to speed things up to send the application to CIC sooner, but I soon discovered that following their advice was both worthwhile and necessary.
I might have been tempted to apply on my own and then include my then girlfriend (soon-to-be-my-wife) after we got married, but my lawyer suggested applying as a married couple (which meant delaying the application) as it's very tricky to add a member later on.
In a particular instance, the assistance of our lawyers was pivotal when our first ITA was rejected because one document was deemed invalid (a bit of a grey area, really), but they managed to find a loophole in the CIC process and swiftly got me back into the Entry Pool and back on track for the ITA phase.
There's no way we could have obtained the COPR without the help of Canadian Citizenship & Immigration. A big thank you for their hard work and excellent guidance.
